The aim of our society is to contribute towards improving the social, environmental, and economic situations in rural communities in KwaZulu Natal.
MOSS is here!
We stand proudly united and lead. Through responsible, participatory management structures according to a jointly designed plan for the social development of previously disadvantaged communities, we come together through the different journey’s life has taken us, by providing support, education, joy, fun and laughter.

Formed in 1974
Moss was formed in 1974 and comprised the ex- matriculants of Meadowlands High school, in Chatsworth, Durban.
The group initially started out as a social group but during the onset of the Covid pandemic, made a collective decision to reevaluate its purpose.
Our evaluations surmised, that for the poorer communities to have a progressive and positive outlook on life, community development was key.
How We Work
The Plan
To be actively involved in the provision of skills training and development, with the purpose of empowering the poor to help themselves, to be able to work in the open labor market, to be able to own and manage their businesses, but ultimately, to restore their sense of dignity and self-worth.
To make efforts to uplift the quality of the senior citizens lives by assessing their health needs, nutrition, access to relief provided by government structures, for example grants, free training programs, Covid relief, flood relief etc.
To identify the very poor and needy whose basic needs are not being met, viz, food, clothes, shelter, access to health care facilities, schooling, and transport.
